RL DBH Stonefly – Double the Weight, Built for Steelhead

One of our top steelhead flies, the RL DBH Stonefly combines a lifelike stonefly profile with two weighted beads to help it sink quickly and reach feeding fish in deeper, faster water.

Its dark body, mottled wing case and contrasting rubber legs create a convincing silhouette, while the flexible legs add enticing movement throughout the drift. The double-bead weight helps carry the fly down through strong currents, making it an excellent choice for working deep runs, fast riffles and pools.

How to Fish It

  • Dead drift under an indicator: Cast upstream and mend your line to let the fly drift naturally with the current. Adjust your indicator depth so the fly travels close to the bottom, and set the hook when the indicator pauses, dips or moves unexpectedly.

  • Swing through runs: Cast across and slightly downstream, allowing the fly time to sink before it swings across the current. Keep a controlled line as the rubber legs pulse with movement, and let the fly hang briefly at the end of the swing before your next cast.

When getting down matters, this is a steelhead pattern you’ll want in your fly box. One of our most popular stonefly patterns, the RL DBH Stonefly is an essential addition for your next steelhead outing!
